Sheelagh Ward

Experienced International Online Counsellor

Hello. I’m Sheelagh Ward an experienced online counsellor registered with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Registration Number 370508 and ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy online) Membership Number 336. I work solely online by telephone/secure video/webcam /chat and email, with people in the UK and worldwide (excluding Canada and the USA as UK insurers will currently not insure UK therapists to work there) I have expertise in helping people with:

  • anxiety and depression,
  • LGBTQ issues
  • agoraphobia
  • bereavement and grief
  • carer support especially dementia
  • stress
  • trauma
  • domestic violence
  • low self esteem
  • workplace issues including bullying and redundancy
  • relationship and family problems- including same sex relationships
  • disability
  • lack of confidence
  • loneliness
  • chronic and debilitating illness such as ME and cancer
  • end of life situations
  • coping with injury after an accident or medical negligence.
  • sex and porn addiction

I’ve a wide range of experience since qualifying in 2001.  I’m an approved online therapist with Anxiety UK , Dr Julian and Therapy Route and have provided counselling to employees as part of EAP’s (Employee Assistance Programmes). I was a volunteer counsellor at Victim Support for 3 years, counselling victims of serious crime. Many clients attending Victim Support exhibited symptoms of PTSD and both severe physical and mental trauma. I’m a person-centred (humanistic) holistic counsellor and believe each person needs to be considered as a whole. I use other approaches such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Gestalt therapy when necessary, to help clients develop a stronger, healthier sense of self, as well as access and understand their feelings, in a non-judgmental way. This means that therapy is tailored individually to clients’ needs. I also believe that all human beings have the ability to fulfil their full potential provided the right conditions are present. I support adults of all genders aged 18+ and provide a warm, caring and secure, safe environment for you to talk and be heard.  As I’m not emotionally involved in your life I can give you a different perspective and really help you to understand what is going on for you. Together, we can explore what you need and how to get there.  I can also help you develop new ways to cope with specific problems such as anxiety, depression, loss and trauma. I’m passionate about the application of technology to counselling and now work exclusively online by video, chat (IM), email and by telephone. The choice is yours.  The former Organisational Director of ACTO. My role was business planning and to liaise with other organisations and create new links and ways for ACTO and those organisations to work effectively, bringing benefits to online counsellors and ultimately their clients. I’ve over 40 years of experience as a nurse, manager, general manager and trainer in the Health Care Sector. For the last 20 years I  worked as an independent consultant advising the Civil, Criminal and Coroner’s Courts both in the UK and overseas on health care and nursing practice. If you feel I can help with a problem or issue then please send me an email or text me. My details are available here.
